Home / Water Systems / Dual Tank: City Water

Dual tank water softener and carbon filtration for city water.

Our largest city-water system. Instead of sharing one tank, the softening resin and the carbon each get a dedicated tank, bridged by a single control valve. That gives 96,000 grains of softening and a carbon bed that backwashes itself.

Dual Tank: City Water: quick answers

Why two tanks instead of one?

Each media does its own job in its own tank, and both tanks can be backwashed to keep the media clean.

Separating carbon from resin gives you more of each, which suits heavily used systems.

Who is it for?

Large homes, high water use, pools, guest houses, or big households.

If your home runs water nearly all day, the extra capacity keeps regeneration manageable.

Does it remove chlorine?

The dedicated coconut shell carbon tank reduces chlorine taste and odor for the whole house.

It does not purify drinking water; pair it with reverse osmosis for that.

Who it’s for

  • Large homes and high-use households
  • Homes with pools, casitas or constant demand
  • Owners who want the most carbon and softening capacity on city water

What it won’t do

  • It doesn’t purify drinking water.
  • It isn’t designed for iron or sulfur. Well homes should look at the Well Water dual tank.
  • It needs more garage or side-yard space than a single-tank system.

Certified components

  • Control valve: certified to NSF/ANSI 44
  • Fiberglass mineral tank (Enpress): certified to NSF/ANSI 44 and 61
  • Coconut shell carbon (Jacobi): certified to NSF/ANSI 61
  • Softening resin: ResinTech CG10, 10% crosslinked

These are certifications of individual components for material safety and softener performance. They are not a contaminant-reduction certification for the complete system.

Frequently asked questions

How much space does a dual tank need?

Two media tanks plus a salt tank. We check your equipment location during the water test.

Is a dual tank worth it for a normal-size home?

Usually not. Most 3–4 bedroom homes are well served by the Standard system.

Does it need a drain and an outlet?

Yes, both, like any salt-based softener.

Not sure which one fits?

We test your water at your sink, explain the numbers, and size the system to your home. Free, and no pressure.
